Lifesaving Resources Inc will be conducting a Water Rescue Technician Course on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at their Water & Ice Rescue Training Center in historic Harrisville, New Hampshire. The course will be conducted from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and is designed to provide First Responders (i.e. Fire, Rescue, EMS, and Law Enforcement personnel) with the skills and knowledge required to safely and effectively respond to incidents in, on, and around the water.
This comprehensive and fast-paced training program includes a 4-hour classroom session, followed by a 4.5-hour in-water practical session and includes information and practical skills on the following: • Shore-based non-swimming rescues • Basic swimming rescues • Management of aquatic spinal injuries • Mechanisms and physiology of drowning • Cold water rescue and survival • Ice rescue and survival • Swiftwater rescue and survival • Firefighter survival in the water • Escape and rescue from submerged vehicles • Drowning and aquatic injury prevention and management Participants must be in good physical condition, and must be comfortable in deep water while wearing a lifejacket, and they must be able to effectively propel themselves through the water. The course meets and exceeds NFPA 1670 Standard for Technical Rescue, and is developed by Lifesaving Resources Inc., a company dedicated to drowning and aquatic injury prevention and emergency management. The course will be conducted by Gerald Dworkin, a professional Aquatics Safety and Water Rescue Consultant for Lifesaving Resources Inc. Dworkin has written and published over 40 articles and several course guidebooks, and regularly consults as a Forensics Expert in drowning and aquatic injury cases throughout the country. He currently serves on the Executive Board for the National Drowning Prevention Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to drowning prevention and water safety. Dworkin is currently a Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician with the Harrisville Fire and Rescue Department, and has been a Firefighter and EMT for over 35 years. Dworkin and Lifesaving Resources have been featured on numerous national media broadcasts over the past several years, including The Weather Channel; The Discovery Channel; CNN; MSNBC News; ABC's Good Morning America; CBS' Early Show; and NBC's Today Show; as well as the Fire Emergency Training Network (FETN). Lifesaving Resources develops curriculums in Aquatics Safety, Lifeguarding, Water Rescue, Swiftwater Rescue, and Ice Rescue and conducts this training throughout North America for the Public Safety and Rescue, as well as the Lifeguard and Aquatic Recreation Sectors. The company also conducts an annual Water Rescue Train-the-Trainer Academy, as well as an annual Ice Rescue Train-the-Trainer Academy.
